THE Doobie Brothers star MICHAEL MCDONALD was so taken with British singer Julia Fordham's new version of his I KEEP FORGETTIN' (WE'RE NOT IN LOVE ANYMORE) he offered to join her to re-record the track. Fordham has been performing the tune at concerts for years and when MCDonald heard a demo recording of her cover, he stepped up to the microphone to record the track as a duet. Thrilled Fordham has included the song on her new album China Blue and admits she still can't believe she recorded a tune with one of her all-time musical heroes. She says, "I mean it's with the man himself, as in, the Michael MCDonald, as in, the one with the grey beard and the astonishing, magnificent heaven-sent voice. "A wonderful musician/pianist I have been working with here in Los Angeles, Jon Gilutin, recorded a version of the song which we had been performing at recent gigs." Then, another Fordham pal, producer Simon Climie, played it to MCDonald when they were working on the music veteran's new album. The Happy Ever After singer adds, "A second later, Michael was singing along with my vocal on the track. Simon pressed record, and hey presto... I may never fully recover from the excitement."
