The Alleged Victim In A Domestic Violence Case Against Don Mclean Has Been Granted An Order Of Protection To Keep The Singer/songwriter Away From Her.
The American Pie star, 70, was arrested for misdemeanour domestic violence in the early hours of Monday (18Jan16) after police officers responded to reports of a bust-up at his home in Camden, Maine.
The female, who has not been named, submitted a statement detailing the alleged assault to Knox County Unified Court in Rockland, Maine to obtain a temporary protection from abuse order, which was granted on Tuesday (19Jan16) by Judge Susan Sparaco.
MCLean's attorney Walter MCKee tells the Bangor Daily News the singer denies all the allegations "vigorously" and adds, "It is incredibly disturbing that (she) would take this extraordinary step of filing for a protection order, especially when there are already bail conditions that provide her with any protection she believes she needs.
"Don was arrested based on (her) allegations alone. There are two sides to the story here, and at the right time, Don's side will be told. Suffice to say he will make clear that he engaged in zero criminal behavior this past weekend... It is critically important that everyone reserve judgment until all sides can be heard. Don is a fine citizen and representative of the United States around the world. He deserves the benefit of the doubt to say the least."
His bail conditions stipulated he could not have any contact with the woman.
The temporary order will be reviewed on 28 January (16) and MCLean is set to appear at the Rockland court on 22 February (16) to answer to the domestic assault charge.
