Cult sci-fi TV show Dr Who has been delivered a second blow, just weeks after star Christopher Eccleston quit - his sexy sidekick Billie Piper will leave at the end of the first series.

Eccleston resigned in March (05), claiming he feared becoming typecast as the time travelling doctor.

Producers have hired actor David Tennant to take his place in the next series - and now have to find another new star, because Piper, 22, will only appear in a handful of episodes when the show returns to the small screen for season two.

A BBC insider says of Piper, who plays ROSE TYLER, "It would appear that Billie has already made up her mind that she is leaving.

"She is a great actress but she doesn't want to become typecast.

"Christopher Eccleston's departure has probably helped influence her decision too."
