Rapper DMX is set to show off his comedic chops by playing himself in Chris Rock's new, untitled movie.

The hip-hop hitmaker, who has starred in several films including Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds, is looking to show off a different side of himself in his latest project.

A statement from Dmx's publicist to AllHipHop.com reads, "The scene is comedic, which allowed X to show off his versatility as an actor. X and Rock played well off each other... There are more acting roles to come."

The casting news comes after the rapper's recent bankruptcy filing and Dui arrest.

Last month (Jul12), Dmx, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was detained by cops in South Carolina for allegedly driving without a licence, while allegedly under the influence. His representative has subsequently denied that the rapper was drunk behind the wheel.

Simmons also filed for bankruptcy in the same month, listing less than $50,000 (£33,333) in assets and debts of more than $1 million (£666,667).
