The hip-hop star slumped to the ground outside a hotel in Yonkers, New York and cops performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive him, with early reports of the drama suggesting he had suffered an asthma attack.

However, it emerged on Tuesday (09Feb16) that medics treated the rapper with opioid reversal medication, used to negate the effects of heroin following an overdose, fuelling fears the collapse was drug-related.

A source tells the New York Daily News, "They're trying to cover up by saying it was an asthma attack. Obviously, they don't want to put out that this was an overdose."

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was released from hospital on Tuesday after recovering from his ordeal.
