Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross has acted quickly to replace Oren Aviv as head of production. On Thursday, Ross named producer Sean Bailey, who has never had a studio executive position previously, to the post. The move came as somewhat of a surprise to industry observers, particularly inasmuch as Ross had scuttled Bailey's big-budget production of Captain Nemo 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in November after reportedly spending millions on preproduction. The project had been championed by Ross's predecessor, Dick Cook. In an interview with today's (Friday) Los Angeles Times , director McG, who had been set to direct Nemo , said that Bailey "comes from the creative community [he's a former script writer] and he's very well liked, so he's going to attract talent."
