Former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler is fuming after his local council refused to give him planning permission to extend his English country home.

The MONEY FOR NOTHING hitmaker and his Bahrain-born wife KITTY ALDRIGE wanted to build a nursery in the attic for one-year-old KATYA RUBY ROSE in their Beaulieu, Hampshire abode.

But authorities ruled the building work would generate "additional activity" in the quiet New Forest region of Hampshire.

Knopfler plans to appeal the decision.
