Mariah Carey Blames New Year's Horror Show On TV Execs

Mariah Carey Dick Clark

It wasn't a great turn of the year for pop icon Mariah Carey after a botched performance during her Dick Clark New Year's Rockin' Eve show. Carey's set was littered with technical issues with a supposed problem with her earpiece resulting in the star not being able to hear her backing track. But now Carey's team have claimed that Dick Clark Productions deliberately sabotaged the star to create more publicity and some "Mariah drama".

Prior to Mariah's Time Square performance, which goes live to millions on ABC, she repeatedly told stage managers and producers that she was unable to hear her "inner ear", meaning that she could not hear the audience reactions. The star was then repeatedly told that "it would be fine once she was on stage", but this wasn't the case, leaving the Carey team embarrassed.

The Wrecking Crew Trailer

The 1960s was an incredible decade for music, with the likes of Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, The Monkees and many, many others producing timeless hits that remain in the world's consciousness to this day. However, little do people know the reason for all these genius hits, for the catchy melodies and iconic hooks; behind every great artist of the day was a band unlike any other. The Wrecking Crew were probably the most sought after session musicians of the era, producing beats for all areas of the West Coast Sound, winning Grammys and become just as rich as the people they were supporting - and yet the general public remained widely oblivious to the music industry's secret weapon. They may have been ever-evolving, but these LA artists were still top choice for the biggest stars, namely Phil Spector who dubbed them 'The Phil Spector Wall of Sound Orchestra'.

The Wrecking Crew - Featurette And Clips

Through the 1960s, a collection of Los Angeles musicians worked together in order to support acts like The Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra. This group was called The Wrecking Crew, and they created some of the greatest and most influential songs, without receiving any of the credit for it. Beach Boys co-founder, Bryan Wilson, described how they were the most important part of that period in music. A documentary 12 years in the making, sheds some light on some of the unsung heroes of the musical industry in the 1960s.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will web-sling it's way on to cinema screens on 2 May (18 April in the UK) in 2014 and as the release date of the much-anticipated sequel to the reboot of the comic book spin off draws nearer, Sony have thought of a novel way to combine New Years Eve with a promotional push for the movie.

Spiderman 2
Spidey (Andrew Garfield) will face off against Electro (Jamie Foxx) and others in the new film

The AS-M2-oriented website ElectroArrives.com was been counting down the minutes to midnight in anticipation for something big for a while now. That something big became a little clearer today when director Marc Webb and Spidey himself appeared on Good Morning America to promote the film and explain the role Spiderman will be playing in New York City's new years celebrations. Not only will Spidey have a part to play in the ball drop counting down to midnight, but the evening will also see the airing of some new scenes from the movie for the first time.

Ryan Seacrest Hard At Work On First Rockin' Eve Without Dick Clark

Ryan Seacrest Dick Clark Carly Rae Jepsen Taylor Swift Flo Rida

ABC’s NYE programming will feature a 2-hour tribute to the late Dick Clark, right before its annual Rockin’ New Year special, hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

"I'd like to say I can imagine how it's going to feel, but I'm not quite sure," says Seacrest, quoted by The Associated Press. "I looked forward so much to each year that I did the show with him."

Seacrest is using the sad fact of Clark’s passing as motivation to make this year’s Rockin’ Eve better than ever in tribute. The presenter is reportedly hard at work, hammering out the “nitty-gritty” around the show, which will air from 8pm on the 31st, up until 2am on New Year’s Day. A host of A-list performance have already been booked, like Carly Rae Jepsen, Neon Trees, Flo Rida and Pitbull. Taylor Swift, who has arguably been one of 2012’s biggest success stories, will fill the headlining slot right before midnight. The show will air live, as usual, from Times Square in New York, but without Clark as a host there will undoubtedly have to be some changes.

A Tribute To Dick Clark - Stevie Wonder Leads The Honours At The AMAs

Stevie Wonder Dick Clark Tony Orlando Buddy Holly James Brown

At Sunday night's (November 18) American Music Awards, Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the late Dick Clark, the former presenter of American Bandstand.

Clark passed away in April, aged 82 and Stevie said that he was “Truly honored to have been asked (to pay tribute to the TV star), because that spirit I knew and saw on television was his real spirit in real life. Meeting him as a person was wonderful.”

Wonder went on to play a three-song medley and said “He brought musicians, artists and songwriters of all the various genres together, and we perform in the spirit of music… It's a challenge to Americans and world leaders to do the same.” The singer Tony Orlando once said of Clark “Only God is responsible for making more stars than Dick Clark.” He was responsible for breaking a huge number of American artists through his TV show, such as Buddy Holly and James Brown.

Stars Go Crazy For Gangnam Style At 40th American Music Awards

Psy Justin Bieber Selena Gomez Dick Clark

The American Music Awards were dominated by one thing, the same thing that's dominated everything for the past few months: Gangnam Style.

Everyone was begging to get an interview with the song's creator, Korean rapper Psy, who doesn't miss an opportunity to flaunt the dance move that's taken the world by storm. In a video uploaded by ET Online, many of the high profile attendees at the awards were either attempting their own version of Gangnam, or watching in awe as Psy performed with MC Hammer. "20 years ago I saw MC Hammer on the TV in Korea, and he said, you can't touch this, and 20 years later, I can touch him right now," Psy said, to a round of laughter, patting MC Hammer on the back. The pair enjoyed a great performance on stage, well and truly raising the roof as everyone stood up and joined in with the unusual moves.

The news, perhaps, should have been focussed on the late Dick Clark; the creator of the awards 40 years ago as he tried to offer an alternative to The Grammys. But it was Justin Bieber that dominated proceedings, as he picked up award after award and was seen arm in arm with Selena Gomez. The on again off again couple look to have reconciled, but who can be sure with young love?

Stevie Wonder Pays Homage To His Friend Dick Clark

Stevie Wonder Dick Clark Ryan Seacrest

Last night's American Music Awards saw the show's creator, the late Dick Clarke, honoured by Stevie Wonder, as the legendary musician paid tribute to his friend in song, and spoken word.

"Truly honored to have been asked, because that spirit I knew and saw on television was his real spirit in real life. Meeting him as a person was wonderful," said Wonder to Rolling Stone on the opportunity to perform. "He brought musicians, artists and songwriters of all the various genres together, and we perform in the spirit of music," he said. "It's a challenge to Americans and world leaders to do the same." Ryan Seacrest - who in recent years hosted New Year's Rockin' Eve with Clark - introduced Wonder, first offering up words of admiration for his late friend and peer. "I was in awe of [Clark's] star quality and how completely comfortable he was in front of the camera," Seacrest said. "Even when I got to know him well and count him and his wife Carrie as friends, I never lost that sense of awe." Seacrest said the American Music Awards was a fitting platform on which to honor Clark. "This show, on its 40th anniversary, still reflects Dick's original vision: bringing the top artists on the planet together on an equal stage," Seacrest said. "Dick loved the power of music and its ability to create pure joy. That's why we're going to use music tonight to celebrate the joy of his life."

Dick Clark died aged 82 on April 18, 2012, after suffering a heart attack following surgery to fix an enlarged prostate, a transurethral resection of the prostate.

Taylor Swift To Bring In The New Year For ABC's 'New Year's Rockin' Eve'

Taylor Swift Dick Clark

Country-pop starlet Taylor Swift will be headlining this years 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' at New York's Times Square, performing live just before the famous glowing ball drops to mark the start of 2013.

The newly single Swift's performance will top off a truly remarkable year for the young singer, as it has seen her go from strength to strength, with her curent album, Red, still performing well in album charts across the globe. This week, the album knocked One Direction's Up All Night from its perch as the second highest selling album of the year, with Adele's 21 still in a very compromising lead.

The annual New Year's Eve music special, aired on ABC television since 1975, was hosted for most of it's duration by legendary TV and music producer Dick Clark who sadly passed away in April this year at age 82. Other than the 2005/06 edition, Clark brought in the new year from Times Square with a host of musical guests, but sadly this year will be the first Clark-less celebration, with co-host Ryan Seacrest taking on full duties for the first time. As such, a two-hour special about the life and career of Clark will be held before the festivities get under way.
