The Man of Steel actress made her debut on the Great White Way at the age of 12 as an ensemble castmember in Andrei Serban's production of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard.

Now, almost 40 years later, she is preparing to return to the Broadway stage for a new adaptation of the classic 1904 play, about a family facing ruin as its country braces for a revolution.

This time around, 51-year-old Diane will portray matriarch Madame Ranevskaya. Further casting details have yet to be announced.

The 2016 version has been adapted by Stephen Karam and will be directed by Simon Godwin for the Roundabout Theatre Company, reports BroadwayWorld.com.

Previews will begin on 15 September (16) at the American Airlines Theatre, ahead of its grand opening on 16 October (16).

The 1977 staging of The Cherry Orchard featured Irene Worth as Ranevskaya, while Meryl Streep was also part of the cast, playing the character Dunyasha.

Lane last appeared onstage in the 2015 Off Broadway production of The Mystery of Love and Sex.
