Singing legend Diana Ross pulled out of last night's (31AUG05) World Music Awards in Los Angeles to rush to her ill father's bedside.

Ross was due to perform at the ceremony, but warned organisers in advance she would be unable to attend the taping at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

She tells, "My father is ill. I have an 84-year-old fragile father who has diabetes and he is blind, and whenever family calls, you have to run. He is my only living parent."

WMA organiser MICHAEL LEVITT adds, "She called us personally to let us know the reason she had to decline. It was a very classy thing for her to do, and we were impressed by her sincerity."
