Movie star Dennis Quaid is set for another real-life portrayal on the big screen after negotiating to play legendary fiddler SPADE COOLEY in a new film.

The actor, who has played Jerry Lee Lewis (GREAT BALLS OF FIRE), DOC HOLLIDAY (Wyatt Earp), SAM HOUSTON (The Alamo) and baseball hero JIMMY MORRIS (THE ROOKIE), is keen to play Cooley in an upcoming biopic.

But Quaid is hoping to do more than just star in the movie - he is set to write and direct the biography, tentatively titled SHAME ON YOU, too.

A major force in country music during the 1940s, Cooley is perhaps better known for the 1961 torture and murder of his wife. He was serving a life sentence at California's Vacaville Prison when he died of a heart attack in 1969.
