Demi Moore has announced she is to divorce husband Ashton Kutcher, ending months of speculation as to the Two and a Half Men actor's alleged infidelity. Moore, who has been photographed looking gaunt in recent weeks, released a statement through her publicist on Thursday.
The Margin Call actress said, "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton". Possibly hinting at Ashton's infidelity scandal, she added, "As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life". The news sent Twitter in overdrive, with both fans and celebrities reacting to the news. South African comedian Marc Lottering said, "I believe that Demi Moore is now making a move on Justin Bieber", while radio DJ and author Gareth Cliff joked, "Now that Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore are getting divorced, people in relationships with massive age gaps need a new role model couple". The couple's 16 year age difference had often been the butt of jokes, with Demi turning 49 a week ago while Kutcher is only 33. During his controversial hosting of the Golden Globes earlier this year, Ricky Gervais introduced Moore's ex-husband Bruce Willis as "Ashton Kutcher's dad". Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was clearly stunned by the news, simply posting, "Demi Moore announces end of marriage!!!"
Once prolific tweeters, the couple's accounts have been suspiciously inactive in recent weeks, with Demi instead choosing to post cryptic messages hinting at a rift. Following her statement on Thursday, Kutcher tweeted, "Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK".
