Chi Cheng, the bass player of US rock band the Deftones, has been seriously injured in a car accident.
The 38-year-old is under doctor's supervision in an intensive care unit in California, following the crash on Monday November 3rd.
His band mate Chino Moreno said that Cheng was in a "serious but stable" condition.
"I'm praying that his strength will get him through this," the singer wrote on his website, adding that other Deftones members were at Cheng's bedside.
No further details about Cheng's condition have yet been released.
However, Billboard.com quotes the Sacramento Bee newspaper as saying the bassist is in a coma following the accident, which occurred in the Santa Clara area of San Jose.
Formed in the late 80s, the Deftones released their debut album Adrenaline through Madonna's Maverick Records in 1995.
They won a Grammy award in 2000 for the song Elite from their White Pony album and have recently been working on their sixth studio album Eros, scheduled for an April 2009 release.
