Def Jam Recordings, a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), will digitally release the music from and inspired by the motion picture TOP FIVE on December 9th. The star-packed film, written, directed by and starring Chris Rock, tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront the comedy career—and the past—that he's left behind. TOP FIVE, produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush and distributed by Paramount Pictures, opens nationwide on December 12th.
On December 9th, Def Jam will release the digital-only TOP FIVE soundtrack album. The hip-hop centric collection, with classic tracks drawn primarily from the Def Jam catalog, opens with “Ruff Ryders' Anthem" by DMX and closes with “Fight the Power" by Public Enemy. The all-star tracklist will also include music from JAY Z, Kanye West, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, Jadakiss, The Roots, and Ghostface Killah, as well as cuts from Salt -N- Pepa, Scarface, Ja Rule, Rakim, and Young Chris feat. Rico Love.
In addition to Chris Rock and Rosario Dawson, TOP FIVE also stars Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, Cedric The Entertainer, J.B. Smoove, Sherri Shepherd, Anders Holm, Romany Malco, Leslie Jones, Michael Che, and Jay Pharoah, with cameos by many other A-listers. TOP FIVE was produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush, and co-produced by Shawn “JAY Z” Carter and Kanye West, with Questlove serving as both Executive Music Producer and co-composer of the film's original music score (with co-composer Ludwig Göransson). TOP FIVE was financed by Barry Diller and Scott Rudin’s IACF.
