Dee Snider, the frontman for 1980s metal band Twisted Sister, will undergo emergency throat surgery tomorrow (03MAR06) for a polyp lodged near his vocal chords. The growth was discovered after the singer lost his voice during a 20 January (06) concert in Los Angeles. The band has been forced to cancel appearances for the next two months, so that Snider can properly recover. The WE"RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT singer says, "I hate cancelling shows and disappointing fans for any reason, but I have been advised that this surgery should not wait." The benign growth is located near Snider's voice box and will be removed during a routine surgical procedure. Snider has been able to joke about his condition saying, "All of you people out there, including my wife SUZETTE, who have been hoping I would just shut up, are finally getting your wish...at least for a couple of months." Twisted Sister, who are celebrating 30 years of being together, will be back on the road for festival dates this summer (06).
