NBC's Days Of Our Lives won the Daytime Emmy award for the best dramatic series for the first time since 1975. However, the soap opera, which debuted in 1965, won no other major award. (The show's Chandler Massey won in the Younger Actor category playing a teenage character who, over the past year, has been caught up in the difficult process of coming out.) CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful won for best writing, directing, and lead actress. CBS's The Young and The Restless took the trophy for lead actor. The Ellen DeGeneres Show was named best entertainment talk show, while Ricki Lake won for best talk-show host, despite the fact that her show was canceled in February before the end of its first season. The Emmy voters passed over all three daily network morning shows and bestowed its award for morning program to CBS Sunday Morning. The Price Is Right won for best game show and the Dr. Oz Show for informative talk show. TVNewser.com pointed out that the awards telecast, airing on HLN, was plagued with technical glitches virtually from beginning to end, and during the In Memoriam segment Corbin Bernsen uttered two verboten words that didn't get bleeped.
