A former Big Brother contestant has died, at the age of 30. Sophia Brown, a bank worker, was on the reality show in 2009, the Sun announced today (May 18, 2012). Big Brother's former presenter Davina Mccall paid tribute to the 2009 contestant, saying "That's really sad. My thoughts are with her family." Sophia is known to have suffered from lupus throughout her life, but the cause of death is currently unconfirmed.

The winner of that year's show, Sophie Reade, posted a message on Twitter saying "Devastated to hear the news about Sophia, such an amazing lady and a pleasure to known her. Cant believe it RIP." Several of her housemates have also posted messages of support, with Karly Ashworth saying "RIP to Sophia Brown who was also on my series of Big Brother. Such sad news. My thoughts are with her family and friends." Rodrigo Lopes also said "I'm devastated. I don't know what to say... I'm so glad to have met you, Sophia... Your 'ok.. wow' will be unforgettable. I will always have you in my heart." The show's distinctive narrator Marcus Bentley also paid tribute to her, saying "Such very sad news about BB 10 housemate Sophia Brown - god bless Sophia xx."

When Sophia applied for the show, she described herself as "fun, fierce and feisty" and said that being diagnosed with lupus had given her a positive outlook on life. She was voted into the show on Day Four, but voted off just five days later.
