American TV star David Letterman used his late night chat show to again thank Montana officials for foiling a plot to kidnap his baby son last night (21MAR05).

In a statement released while he was on vacation last week (ends18MAR05), the beloved host of The Late Show declared he is "forever grateful" to police for nabbing a man who was allegedly plotting to kidnap his toddler.

But last night Letterman went public with his gratitude.

He said, "Last week, my family and I were involved in a little legal activity, and fortunately everything turned out fine, but I want to just take a second here to thank some people."

He thanked two FBI agents, Teton County Sheriff GEORGE ANDERSON, county attorney JOE COBLE "and the great people of Choteau, Montana. They have always made me and my family feel entirely welcome as though it were our home and that's how we think of it."

On Thursday (17MAR05), Montana police announced they had arrested KELLY FRANK for allegedly planning to hold Letterman's 18-month-old son and his nanny for a $5 million (GBP1.6 million) ransom.
