The Shutdown rapper/producer was awarded the coveted 2016 Mercury Prize in London on Thursday night (15Sep16) beating the likes of David Bowie, Radiohead and The 1975.

Skepta - real name Joseph Adenuga - was scheduled to kick off the tour on Saturday (17Sep16) in Perth. He also had dates planned in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

According to Australian website Music Feeds, the rapper had previously moved the Australian dates so he could attend the Mercury Prize ceremony, which he attended with his parents, sister - Apple's Beat's 1 radio DJ - Julie Adenuga and rapper brother Jme.

An official statement from the rapper's representative read: “With deep disappointment, Skepta is not able to travel to Australia and New Zealand at this time for an unexpected and personal reason. His tour, planned to commence on Saturday 17 September 2016 is regrettably cancelled. Full ticket refunds will be available on all shows from point of purchase. We are working in close conjunction with the Artist’s booking agency and management in order to organise a new run of shows in 2017.”

Skepta had confirmed seven headlining dates around the country, most of which completely sold out. Ticketholders will be contacted with information with regards to refunds.
