Bowie picked up honours for his final album Blackstar and title track, and tripled his Grammy gongs in the process.

The Let's Dance star's previous wins were for Best Music Video, Short Form for Jazzin' For Blue Jean in 1985 and he also picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

Prior to Sunday night, he had been nominated 11 times.

Meanwhile, his son, filmmaker Duncan Jones, took to Twitter on Sunday night to salute his late dad's big wins at the 2017 Grammys, writing: "So proud of you dad! Would hold you up forever."

Bowie died days after releasing what would be his final album, Blackstar, in January, 2016.
