A 1978 portrait of David Bowie, taken by revered photographer Lord Snowden, has been donated to London's National Portrait Gallery.

The royal snapper, who was married to the late Princess Margaret, has handed over 130 original portraits, also including shots of Dame Maggie Smith, John Hurt, Julie Christie and Agatha Christie, in what is among the largest ever collections received by the gallery.

Some of the portraits will feature in the upcoming Snowdon: A Life in View exhibition, which opens later this year (14).

A selection of portraits of the royal family are also included.
