The recent New York blackout was a thrill for rocker David Bowie, because he spent the evening enjoying an impromptu classical concert in the street outside his house.

The star, like many New Yorkers, had to do without power when the lights went out on America's east coast last month (AUG03), and so he made the most of the outage - thanks to a couple of musical neighbours.

He explains, "There were two guys who took a harpsichord from their practice pad down to the street and did a little classical concert for the whole neighbourhood.

"Things like that were happening all over town. I was really very proud to be a New Yorker."
