British rock legend David Bowie never misses drugs now that he gets his thrills from brisk early morning walks.

In a new edition of NEW YORK magazine, the singer shares a day in his life in the Big Apple with readers.

He says waking early and taking long strolls around his New York neighbourhood is his new addiction.

Bowie writes, "These days, my buzz can be obtained by just walking, preferably early in the morning, as I am a seriously early riser.

"I don't go for the disguise thing - I've never found it necessary, at least not since my real hair colour grew in years ago.

"People here (in New York) are very decent about their interactions with well-knowns. My only rule is to avoid tourist areas."
