Rock legend David Bowie cancelled his Miami concert last night (06MAY04) after a lightning technician tragically died.

The LET'S DANCE singer was just about to go on stage following Welsh band STEREOPHONICS' support set, when a 44-year-old local Florida assistant fell 15 metres (50 feet) from a ladder at the JAMES L KNIGHT CENTER.

The technician was pronounced dead upon arrival at the RYDER TRAUMA CENTER.

Miami police sergeant CHRISTINE ACUNA said there was no sign of suspicious activity, although detectives are continuing their investigations.

A Bowie representative posted a note on his official website reading, "David Bowie and his touring company are deeply saddened by the news of this tragic accident and send their sincerest condolences and thoughts to the stage hand's family and friends."

Bowie's tour will continue at CHASTAIN PARK in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday (08MAY04).
