Rock legend David Bowie is calling on his fans to bootleg his own material for an internet competition.

The singer wants creative fans to use computer technology to "mash up" any track from his latest album REALITY with one older song. The winning entrant will win a new car and their effort will be released as an MP3.

Bowie, who will get to choose the winner, says, "I'm very comfortable with the idea and have been the subject of quite a few pretty good mash-ups myself."

The 57-year-old, who describes himself as a "a hybrid maker off and on", adds, "Mash-ups were a great appropriation idea just waiting to happen."
