David Beckham's record-breaking move to Los Angeles did not take place without the input of Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise.
The Real Madrid player, who is now heading to the LA Galaxy side in return for a measly £128 million, admitted that he had spent an hour on the phone to Cruise prior to the decision.
"I phoned him and said there might be an announcement. Obviously I'd asked him for his advice as well because he's a very wise man, he's a very good friend of mine," Beckham said.
Beckham, who is upping sticks to the States along with wife Victoria and children Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, is enjoying a positive news story after suffering the humiliation of losing his place in the England team following another miserable World Cup campaign.
Instead of lamenting his ageing form Becks is now looking forward to schmoozing with Hollywood celebrities.
"It's going to be a big help for us, to have friends actually when we arrive in LA," he said.
Not that the glitz of Hollywood stateside is anything to do with the move, as Beckham insists.
"I'm coming there not to be the superstar but to be part of the team, and to work hard and hopefully to win things," he said, referring to his new career in soccer.
