Unlikely literary stars David Beckham and Madonna have been nominated at this year's (04) BRITISH BOOK AWARDS.

The soccer heart-throb's autobiography MY SIDE is up in two categories for Book Of The Year and Sports Book Of The Year, while the MATERIAL GIRL is competing for Children's Book Of The Year with her illustrated story THE English Roses.

Real Madrid player Beckham is up against Jk Rowling's HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX and A ROYAL DUTY - written by the late DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES' butler PAUL BURRELL - in the Book Of The Year section, which was won by MICHAEL MOORE's STUPID WHITE MEN last year (03).

Bill Clinton's wife HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON is nominated in the Biography Of The Year category. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 9 April (04).
