On The Verge Of Something Wonderful
Darren Hayes returns to the UK music scene this August with his brand new single "On The Verge Of Something Wonderful", released via Powdered Sugar on August 6th 2007.
"On The Verge Of Something Wonderful" is an uplifting electropop song that is set to be the sound of summer on airwaves across the globe. The track is already garnering rave reviews, with respected music site Popjustice.com saying:
"We are pleased to announce that this single is totally amazing, and had he released this earlier on in his career he would already be one of the most famous popstars in the world. But slow and steady wins the race. Musically, you will not hear another song today that will reassure you so completely that everything is probably going to be alright after all..."
The single is the first track to be taken from Darren's new 25 track double album opus "This Delicate Thing We've Made". The album sees Darren at full creative throttle producing a daring, theatrical, wise, wounded and wonderful epiphany, representing his true maturation as an artist.
At 35 years old, Darren Hayes has turned into just the pop star he always wanted to be. Himself. Who knew that that would sound like the lost younger brother of Kate Bush, the one who eschewed his sister's whimsical folksiness in favour of a chrome-plated, 80s driven pop edge? The record was recorded using a temperamental Fairlight synthesiser that Darren acquired off eBay. Unsurprisingly, the standout tracks, "How To Build A Time Machine", "Casey", "Me, Myself and (i)" and "The Only One", have a warmth and beauty to their pre-digital age sonic construction.
The album campaign has fully embraced the digital age, with Darren slowly revealing teaser album tracks via animated shorts released on his website. In just six months his MySpace site has taken over half a million hits in reaction to the first 2 of 13 planned online animations.
However, the music video for the first commercial single "On The Verge.." is a big budget affair. Filmed in LA, the promo was directed by The Saline Project (Eminem, Black Eyed Peas) and features a cameo from uber-supermodel Janice Dickinson.
