HARRY POTTER star Daniel Radcliffe is pleading with troubled LIBERTINES rocker Pete Doherty to win his battle with drugs and rejoin his bandmates - because it would be "a crime" if his favourite group split.

The 15-year-old actor has hailed The Libertines as the best band in Britain and admits he'd be devastated if his musical heroes went their separate ways.

And in a personal appeal to Doherty - who fled to Paris last week (ends28MAY04) after being released from London's exclusive drug rehabilitation centre THE PRIORY - Radcliffe has begged him to continue making music with the band.

He says, "The Libertines are still the best band in Britain and I can't wait to hear the new album. They are riding the crest of a wave of brilliant British music and they will go down in history as one of the best bands of our generation.

"I hope Pete gets better and gets back together with the band. It would be a crime if they didn't carry on."
