Pianist Daniel Barenboim performed a 'Music Against Violence' peace concert in Madrid, Spain last night (10AUG06) with an orchestra made up of Israeli and Arab musicians. The Argentine-born musician, who founded his West-Eastern-Divan orchestra in 1999 with the help of late Palestinian author EDWARD SAID, wowed his audience in the Spanish capital's Plaza Mayor with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The 100 person-strong West-Eastern-Divan orchestra features 26 Arabs and 42 Israelis alongside young musicians from around the globe - and Barenboim spoke out against the "savage brutality" of the conflict between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli armed forces.
