British rocker Damon Albarn has thrown his support behind a campaign to save a bar in the area where he grew up.
The former Blur frontman wants to save the Heathcote Arms in Leytonstone, east London, where he lived until he was nine years old.
The establishment was sold in September (14) and is currently closed, and no planning applications have been submitted for it to re-open, but a petition has now been created by local residents to urge the council to keep the building as a pub.
Albarn, whose father Keith regularly drank at the Arms, has backed the campaign, saying,"The more we get rid of traditional pubs the more we forget who we were...The more we forget who we were the less we know who we are. Save the Heathcote."
The online petition was close to reaching 900 signatures as Wenn went to press.
