Hollywood director Curtis Harrington has died. He was 80. Filmmaker Harrington passed away on Sunday (06May07) at his home in Hollywood, after failing to fully recover from a stroke in 2005. He directed short experimental movies in the 1940s and 1950s, and helmed his first full-length feature, 1961's Night Tide - which saw actor Dennis Hopper in his first leading role, as a sailor who falls in love with a part-time mermaid. Hopper paid tribute to the director, saying, "He's always been a dear friend through the years. (As a director) he allowed me all the freedom that I wanted; he was very gracious. I enjoyed Curtis always. I'll miss him."
