Filming on Britain's biggest TV shows Coronation Street and Emmerdale has been suspended until further notice due to snow.
It's the first time work on long-running soap Coronation Street in Manchester, England has been halted for several years, while filming on rural drama Emmerdale in Yorkshire has been postponed until next week (beg11Jan10).
A spokesman for Coronation Street says, "I can't remember a time we had to stop filming because of the weather".
The severe winter weather has also "badly affected" another hit soap, Hollyoaks, according to the show's publicist.
Only one out of the five scheduled shoots were able to go ahead this week.
A Hollyoaks representative says, "The roads around our studio are like an ice rink and the reason we've cancelled shoots is because of the dangerous roads. Our artists and crew can't get in."
Most of northern Britain has come to a virtual standstill after several inches of snow was dumped on the area this week (05-06Jan10).
