Rapper Coolio has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
The 53-year-old rapper, real name Artis Leon Ivy Jr., was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport last month (Sep16) after a loaded, stolen gun was discovered in a bag belonging to a member of his entourage as he passed through a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening checkpoint.
The unidentified 39-year-old man initially claimed he was the owner, but upon further inspection it was determined the items in the bag belonged to Coolio, who had already left the security area and boarded the plane.
Police officers removed him from the flight for questioning, and both he and his travelling companion were taken into custody.
Coolio was due in court on Thursday (13Oct16), but failed to show. According to TMZ.com, his lawyer explained he was in St. Louis, Missouri for a performance and was unable to make it back in time for the hearing. He is now due back in court on 26 October (16).
If convicted, the Gangsta's Paradise rapper faces three years in prison.
Following his arrest, Coolio posted a video on YouTube, which he shared on Twitter, assuring his fans he was fine and the incident was a "misunderstanding".
"Just wanted to say something about the little misunderstanding at the airport today," he explained in the short clip. "Everything's fine... I don't know what's going to be the result of this in the future, but for now I'm fine, and I appreciate everybody's concern."
