A Connecticut man has been arrested and charged with assaulting author Colum McCann following a fight outside a New Haven hotel last month (Jun14).

The writer, who won the 2009 National Book Award for Fiction for Let the Great World Spin, was hospitalised with significant facial injuries on 28 June (14) after he allegedly attempted to help a woman involved in a dispute with her partner.

Police launched an investigation to identify and track down the suspect, and on Monday (07Jul14), Michael Mott turned himself in to authorities and allegedly confessed to the beating, which left MCCann unconscious.

Mott, 34, has since been slapped with charges for assault and family violence breach of peace.
