The first promotional clip for the third movie, titled Bridget Jones's Baby shows the actress reprise her role as a shambolic singleton living the high life in London while working as a TV news producer, before discovering she's pregnant.

It also featured Bridget getting a new man in her life in the shape of Grey's Anatomy hunk, Patrick Dempsey.

Absent from the trailer was Hugh Grant, who starred as the title character's lothario love interest in the first two films, Daniel Cleaver. One familiar face returning as her soulmate turned ex Mark Darcy, is Colin Firth.

In a flashback scene, Renee is seen in a church, dressed in a wedding gown, for a marriage that doesn't actually happen.

However the two-minute teaser left many plot points up to fans' imaginations, such as who the father of Bridget's baby is, whether whether Hugh's character will make a surprise appearance and why did Mark and Bridget's relationship hit the rocks?

Speaking to the Ellen DeGeneres show after the release of the trailer on Wednesday (23Mar16), Renee was coy when asked by the chat show host to divulge details of the film, saying, "I can't give it up, I can't tell."

The franchise's other returning star, Colin Firth previously told Entertainment Weekly fans may have to wait until the last moments of the upcoming film before finding out its central baby secret.

“There are various mysteries to be resolved,” Firth said. “Who does she end up with? Whose baby is it? You can resolve one and make the other a question. Those are things which might not be revealed until very later on. I rather like it. It’s not often you have something where you have the possibility of keeping a surprise.”

Bridget Jones's Baby is due to hit cinemas across the world in September (16).
