Former CNN anchor Aaron Brown, who was fired by Jon Klein in 2005, a year after Klein took over as president, has charged that cable news networks have become bullhorns for political extremists. As reported by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer , Brown told a Seattle audience, "We have become a country short on fact and abundant on opinion. ... It makes consensus harder to find." Moreover, Brown continued, the really important issues of the day become lost in the inconsequential wrangling -- leading to hours of shouting over the Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero in New York, but "nothing on the soaring poverty rate."
