CNN anchor Anderson Cooper has been attacked in Cairo while reporting on the Egyptian protests calling for the resignation of long-serving President HOSNI MUBARAK.
The revered newsman jetted to the African republic to give viewers a frontline report on the daily pro-democracy rallies which have been taking place since last week (ends28Jan11) on the streets of the capital.
However, the protest turned ugly on Wednesday (02Feb11) when Mubarak's supporters clashed with demonstrators, and violence broke out across Cairo.
According to, Anderson and his crew were "kicked and punched in the head" by a baying mob before they escaped to safety on a rooftop.
Cooper's fellow CNN journalist Piers Morgan writes on his page, "Worrying scenes in Cairo - @andersoncooper been punched in the head, pro Mubarak supporters fighting protesters all over Square."
