Sir Cliff Richard has paid tribute to The Shadows star Jet Harris, branding the late musician "an integral part of British rock 'n' roll history".
Harris passed away in Winchester, England on Friday (18Mar11) after a two-year battle with cancer.
Music mythology suggests Harris came up with the name of Sir Cliff's backing band, which went on to score a number of instrumental hits after the Living Doll singer went solo.
The singing legend has spoken out to pay tribute to his pal, insisting he will always hold "great memories" of their friendship.
Sir Cliff says, "Jet was exactly what The Shadows and I needed - a backbone holding our sound together.
"Jet will always be an integral part of British rock 'n' roll history. Losing him is sad - but the great memories will stay with me. Rock on, Jet."
