Tomorrow (July 19, 2012), this year's Emmy nominations will be released and there has already been a great deal of talk over who will take home the coveted gongs. Billed as TV's version of the Oscars, the awards may not have quite the hype surrounding them as the Academy Awards but they're still a big deal in the world of the small screen. And this year. it looks as though Claire Danes and LENA DUNHAM are the names on everyone's lips.
Danes and her show 'Homeland' already reigned supreme at the Critics' Choice awards earlier in the year and it's looking likely that she'll emerge triumphant once more. Lena Dunham is looking to be the strongest contender for Best Actress in a Comedy (for her performance in 'Girls.' though she'll face strong competition from Zooey Deschanel, whose new series 'New Girl' was hugely popular this year. In fact, it's looking as though this year's Emmy awards will be the Year of the Woman, what with the emergence of a number of successful female-led comedies, such as 'Two Broke Girls' (starring Kate Dennings and Beth Behrs) and 'Don't Trust The B**** In Apartment 23' (starring Krysten Ritter and Dreama Walker).
Flying the flag for the men, Zooey Deschanel's 'New Girl' co-star Max Greenfield (who plays the inimitable Schmidt) seems to be something of a shoe-in, according to Salon.com. Similarly, Homeland's Damien Lewis looks almost certain to get a nomination for his part in the revered series. The ceremony itself will take place on September 30, 2012.
