The Homeland star has signed up to join John Krasinski in new Off Broadway play Dry Powder, about a private equity boss who forces the lay-off of several employees at a local grocery store.

The production, written by Sarah Burgess, will also feature Hank Azaria, with Hamilton's Thomas Kail serving as director.

Previews will begin on 1 March (16) at the Public Theater.

The role marks Danes' first theatre gig since portraying Eliza Doolittle in a Broadway revival of Pygmalion in 2007.
