Veteran British actor Christopher Lee has hit out at stars who are too lazy to use their fame to help those less fortunate - partly blaming them for the "terrible mess" the world is in.

The crusading 83-year-old, who hosted yesterday's (13FEB06) charity event Cinema For Peace at the Berlin Film Festival, urges celebrities to make their voices heard to alleviate poverty, especially among children.

He says, "It is our responsibility to support physically and verbally as much as we can our children. The world is a terrible mess. The children are suffering so much, people are dying every day.

"Anyone who can help, should do so. We can help by talking, writing, trying to raise money."

Cinema For Peace is run by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef).
