New DOCTOR WHO DAVID TENNANT is terrified of starring as the time lord in the forthcoming series of the cult sci-fi show, after he was left amazed by Christopher Eccleston's performance.

Eccleston only starred in one series of the revived BBC programme, before he quit over fears of being typecast in future acting roles, leaving TV executives to find a replacement in BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS star Tennant.

Tennant tells Doctor Who magazine, "Chris was so good in it. It left me thinking, 'There's an awful lot to live up to here.'

"I know everyone loved Chris, and so did I, but hopefully I won't disappoint people."
