Christie Brinkley has waded into the debate surrounding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico - calling the disaster "heartbreaking" and insisting the BP boss in charge should have been sacked on "the first day".
America's south-east coastline has been hit by the environmental catastrophe, which saw gallons of oil gushing from a well in the seabed after a BP rig ruptured in April (10).
The company's CEO Tony Hayward recently stepped down following the controversy, but former model Brinkley is adamant he should have been fired as soon as the scale of the disaster became apparent.
She tells the New York Daily News, "It's nothing short of heartbreaking... He (Hayward) should have been given the boot the first day! No severance (pay)! I'm sorry. It's just so sad."
