Christian Slater was too scared to take on Jack Nicholson's former role in the British stage production of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST - until his mother told him to "get off his a*s". When London theatre bosses offered the TRUE ROMANCE star the role of RANDLE P MCMURPHY last year (05), Slater doubted his acting skills could match Nicholson's in the 1975 classic film and shared his fears with his casting director mother MARY JO. He tells The Stage, "She said, 'You're an actor - who cares if he's done it... get off your a*s and go do it.' So that's what I did." Slater has recently returned to the role for a second run at the West End's Garrick Theatre, following the success of the 2005 production.
