Actor Christian Slater is teaming up with a group of British thespians for a BBC radio performance of THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY.

The Hollywood star - who recently made his London stage debut in an adaptation of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST - will join the cast for the final episode of the RADIO 4 production, which begins on 3 May (05).

Slater will provide the voice for John Watson, also known as WONKO THE SANE, a character who lives in an inside-out house.

Stephen Fry, JACKIE MASON and Jonathan Pryce have already been announced as cast members but producers promised a "Hollywood heart-throb" was also going to be involved.

The radio play will follow the eagerly awaited movie release of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - which started out as a radio play in 1978 before Douglas Adams' turned it into a now-classic book.

The film, starring Sam Rockwell and Martin Freeman, is due to hit UK cinemas on 28 April (05).
