The Who I Am With You singer announced his festive plans on Facebook on Thursday (30Jun16), when he told fans about the news from a recording studio decked out in holiday decor.

Wearing a shirt which had the phrase, "Dear Santa, I can explain" emblazoned on the front, he said, "This is something I've wanted to do for a really, really, really long time, and I'm so glad (record label) RCA is letting me do it.

"Christmas is one of my favourite times of year. I have so many Christmas songs I wanna do, it was hard to narrow it down."

He also revealed on Twitter that the holiday album has been "10 years in the making" - the entire time he's been signed to RCA.

Young becomes the first artist to officially announce plans to release a holiday album this year.

Last Christmas' crop of crackers included albums from Train, Leann Rimes, Kenny Rodgers, and Spandau Ballet star Tony Hadley.
