The 32-year-old actor is well-known for his role playing the titular superhero in Marvel's Thor franchise films and while preparing for his part in hacker movie Blackhat, the star was surprised by the reception he received at a penitentiary.

"I'm trying to blend in, doing 'research,' and I'm just getting heckled left and right. 'Yo, come spend some time in my cell, baby!'" he laughed during a recent appearance on British TV programme The Graham Norton Show.

Chris was intent on being incognito before entering the facility, but having to forfeit a key fashion accessory blew his cover.

"The wardens said, 'You can't wear your hat,' and so on, and I said, 'OK, no worries,'" he recalled. "I thought, 'Oh s**t, they're going to know who I am.' Then I thought, 'No, they don't get Thor in here, they're not going to watch movies'. I don't know. I'd never been to prison. I assumed that.

"And the moment I started walking through the cells... I just start getting heckled. It's like, 'Yo, yo, Thor's here, man. Yo, Thor's here. Yo, Thor, Thor! Where's your hammer, man?'"
