The movie, starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Scarlett Johansson, raked in a whopping $28.8 million (£18 million) following its release on Thursday (23Apr15).

It sent the Avengers sequel to the top of the chart and ended Furious 7's three-week run in the number one slot after it took just $2.5 million (£1.6 million).

Disney's Cinderella dropped one place to third, with takings of $1.2 million (£757,000), and the top five was rounded out by Rihanna's animated movie Home ($1 million/£675,000) and opera film Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci ($539,200/£337,000).
