The 27-year-old will star alongside American Idol alum Chris Daughtry, who will play Judas, in the modern-day production of Christ's final days as he presides over the Last Supper, is put on trial, convicted, crucified and resurrected.

Tyler Perry will host and narrate the broadcast, while Trisha Yearwood and Prince Royce have been cast to play Christ's mother Mary and disciple Peter, respectively.

The staging of the ambitious project will take place throughout New Orleans, Louisiana, stopping at some of the city's most iconic venues before culminating in a procession from the Superdome stadium to the stage at Woldenburg Park on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The Passion project originated in The Netherlands in 2011, and the U.S. version will feature a cast members performing a variety of popular songs arranged by executive producer and former Glee music producer Adam Anders.

The live telecast will air on America's Fox network on Palm Sunday (20Mar16).
